Η ARM χτύπησε ξανά με τον νέο ARM Cortex-A7 επεξεργαστή που προορίζεται για τα smartphones και τα tablets όλου το κόσμου. Ο νέος αυτός επεξεργαστής δεν έχει τεράστιες διαφορές απο τον Α8 όπως θα περίμενε κανείς, αλλα αν κοιτάξουμε τελικά πιό προσεκτικά αυτές τις πολύ μικρές πινελιές που έχει δώσει στον Cortex-A7 θα δούμε τελικά πως η ARM κοίταξε λίγο πιό μακριά στο μέλλον. Καταρχήν ο νέος A7 είναι κατασκευασμένος στα 28nm που πρακτικά αυτό σημαίνει πως είναι πέντε φορές (ναι, πέντε) πιό μικρός και πιό “οικολογικός” επίσης. Αυτό τον κάνει και πιό οικονομικό που αυτό σημαίνει πως μελλοντικά θα μπορεί να φιλοξενείται όχι μόνο απο high-end κινητά αλλα και απο φθηνά (budget-phones)! Δεν χρειάζεται πολύ μυαλό για να καταλάβουμε πλέον πως σε 1-2 χρόνια τα φθηνά κινητά δεν θα είναι ποτέ τα ίδια όπως τα ξέραμε. Όμως το καλύτερο το αφήσαμε για το τέλος και ακούει στην ονομασία “big.LITTLE.computing” όπως το ονομάζει η ARM και έχει να κάνει με τον σχεδιασμό των πυρήνων του επεξεργαστή που θα δίνει την δυνατότητα σε ένα smartphone (ή tablet) να χρησιμοποιεί όση δύναμη χρειάζεται κάθε φορά και να μην δίνει το peak του επεξεργαστή συνεχώς. Αυτό θα έχει σαν αποτέλεσμα μεγαλύτερη διάρκεια ζωής για τις μπαταρίες μας. Κάτι αντίστοιχο χρησιμοποιεί και η Tegra 3 Kal-el GPU που έχει μέσα στα σωθικά του το Asus Transformer 2 που είδαμε νωρίτερα. Φαίνεται πως η τεχνολογία γενικότερα έχει πιάσει τρελούς ρυθμούς και αναλογικά, η ζωή μας φαίνεται πως θα αλλάξει πολύ πιό γρήγορα απο ό,τι νομίζαμε. Ελπίζουμε μόνο προς το καλύτερο.
